AS per ysearchblog.com on 14 Sep 2011 “We have been making great progress in transitioning organic search results to the Microsoft search platform in various markets, as part of the Yahoo! and Microsoft Search Alliance. The Site Explorer website will continue to be available until organic results are completely transitioned to the Microsoft Search platform in all markets (expected to be completed by the end of the year.”

Here is the big update about Yahoo Microsoft search alliance. Yahoo has shut down its site explorer and announced that (as per the site) “With the completion of algorithmic transition to Bing, Yahoo! Search has merged Site Explorer into Bing Webmaster Tools. Webmasters should now be using the Bing Webmaster Tools to ensure that their websites continue to get high quality organic search traffic from Bing and Yahoo!”

Bing Webmaster Tools will now be showing integrated data from Yahoo within certain areas and reports. Given the combined effort the Search Alliance represents, it makes sense to showcase relevant data from both engines within a webmaster account. Most areas and data within the accounts will not be affected. The short list of areas you will notice changes in are as follows:

On the Traffic Tab: Traffic summary report and Page Traffic reports will be impacted as follows:

1. Impressions – will go up based on combined data numbers
2. Clicks – will go up based on combined data numbers
3. Click Through Rates (CTR) as appropriate from above (change only due to the mathematics involved in the first two items)

As per Bing Duane Forrester “Impressions data will rise because we will now be showing you combined impressions for your listings across both search engines. For each query term in the list within the report, your impressions represent the combined number of times your result showed, based on queries initiated by searchers at both Bing and Yahoo. Clicks data will follow the same pattern. CTR data is a factor of the first two items, and will rise or fall based on searcher click activity at each search engine. That's the new change in online advertisement industry. Google has already started to change their in-ads notice icon to a new icon that expands to an "AdChoices" label. I haven’t checked it all yet but if your search for “flights to london”, “Flights to Edinburgh”, “Flights to Delhi”, “Flights to Perth” or any other such possible keywords combinations then a new section will appear just after the Google sponsored listing or above the Google organic searches.

This is the new update from Google which will make it difficult for travel agents and price comparison websites to derive the organic traffic from Google searches. Google team acted smartly for the travel industry and their research team came to a better way to provide the relevant results in this most competitive industry around the world.

The update is good and helpful to the visitors looking for flights booking to a particular destination. It will show the “Flights from”, “Duration” and “Airlines” information on searching a particular destination like “Flights to Mumbai”. You may find more information on clicking destinations given under the FROM section or can go the official website of any particular airline on clicking the airline name given under the AIRLINE section.

Hi All, following my speculation on 30 September regarding pagerank update, I have noticed the PR changes in the pages of my major 4 projects. It seems the PR update of October 2010 have already started three days ago.

Well apart from PR updates I have noticed so much fluctuations in my more then 500 keywords lists. There seems some problem in ranking due to gap in the update of various google datacenters. One keyword that I am checking in UK is ranking at no 1 while the same is ranking at no 3 in India. It looks the update was not complete that day. Now the keyword is ranking at No 1 in both the countries. I hope there would be no more fluctuations from now on.

Google has also changed the Google Webamster Tools interface where it is not showing the total of Internal pages and backlinks. It looks that there would be some more changes in coming day. I'll surely update any other information here which is interesting to share and helpful for the readers.

Well the update was not visible so much and did not had any impact in the organic ranking but is good enough to filter the redundant pages from results. I have noticed it's changes in the indexed pages in Google database apart from page generic PageRank and backlinks update. It's very obvious now that Google is becoming smarter than anything you might have ever thought of. The update is very important to synchronize Google followup for producing relevant results from the well maintained databases of websites.

by this update Google is trying to retain the quality pages and filter the rest. So if you are regular follower than just check the indexed pages using Google site: operator. You will notice the difference. I really like this update from Google. You are there if you make sense else you are filtered.

I am sure that Google is planning something big for the data it collects from the web and ofcourse SERPs which will be visible soon. Probably you need to rethink your SEO technique and online marketing approach if it will move the way I am thinking. Curiously waiting for the next update and how it will reflect. Google PageRank update 2010

It seems Google PR update 2010 is going on globally. I have noticed some update in few of the travel websites where pagerank has moved up. There is page rank update for a website from 6 to 7. Even some of the website which has 1 or 2 page rank before has gone up for 3 or 5. But still some of the websites PR is stable with no changes. But this is only PR update, where no impacts are visible in organic ranking of keywords so far. Rest depends how Google will move on from here onward.

It's not looking major update so far. Anyway, its big for sure when Google doing it globally. PageRank is updating for enitre domain - Home Page and Inner pages. Although it is more then this but still the basic parameters of the update seems the backlinks, references and obviously the onpage page optimization and development. Even its not sure if Google has done any big change in the Algorithm to synchronize the world wide web data. Probably the changes are not visible so much so far but would be helpful to Google and Internet users in long term.

The final outcome is still to come. The PageRank update of 2010 has started and it may take from 5-15 days for entire reflection as per yester year trends. Google technology has developed so much, so it may end up so early before you notice any change too. Well both the traffic analysis tools are good enough as per requirement. But I personally would recommend Google Analytic over Web Trends. The mode of information analysis and presentation is much better in Google Analytic comparing to Web Trends and above all it is free for everyone. You just have to install the code which is given by Google upon registration in Google Analytic on every page of your website that you want to track and that's it. This is almost similar in Web Trends too but it is not very much user friendly. I remember how difficult was it to find Direct, Search Engine and Referral traffic in Web Trends whereas I did nothing to get this information in Google Analytic.

Google engineer, Matt Cutts, discussed about URL canonicalization in his post long time back. He explained about how URL canonicalization is helpful for Google to pick a preferred URL based on keyword research.

So what is URL canonicalization?
URL canonicalization is one of the Google technique that allows you to publicly specify your preferred version of a URL. A web server could return completely different content for different URLs. When Google “canonicalizes” a url, it pick the url that seems like the best representative from that set. Setting a Canonical URL will help Google to decide which URL to be canonicalized for aparticular set of pages. like if you set "www.canonicalizedurl.com" then Google will canonicalize this URL among "www.canonicalizedurl.com" ,"canonicalizedurl.com" , "www.canonicalizedurl.com/index.html", "www.canonicalizedurl.com/home.aspx", "www.canonicalizedurl.com/default.php"

It generate 404 pages that are nowhere in the site (e.g.)
http://www.example.com/Main/www.example.com/Main/
http://www.example.com/Main/ABC/www.example.com/Main/ABC/

It seems such pages are generating with the logic of URL in address bar+canonical URL. In the example http://www.example.com/Main/ is browsed page URL and www.example.com/Main/ is canonical URL in browsed page.

Probably this could be resolved using http:// with canonical URL.

Well the PR Toolbar update is here for sure. It has major impacts on webpages where RPL/link exchange is being done. But some minor impacts on the domain page PR.

Apart from this there are changes like a 3 PR ranking sites is showing PR0 now. One thing that I come to know is that google has given more weight to webpages updating frequently. But yes the change should be relevant. Not spamming or unethical activity.

Although it has minor changes in Google SERPs but it will reflect soon in coming months. Google do not do anything irrelevant or valueless. They will use it somehow for better results.

I'll try to post other interesting information on this soon.

Well this is something interesting that google celebrated it's 11th b'day this month, and what's so hurting is that I could write any blog post on that due to busy schedule. I am not getting time to do blog post on few of my favorite subjects in this field and few very latest and must to talk.

Even I wouldn't be able to talk so much about any particular topic becuase I am very sleepy this time after consulting my so bore client ( my friend :) ) and talking to my sweet mom last 2 hrs. Everthing is changed since last few months and it's very hectic now a days. I am coming back to home late night 1 AM after office. oops very tight schedule, no time left for anything.

Google Googling 2009

It seems Google is googling again. It came into my notice first time on 5th of Feb when I seen many of the keywords dropped in ranking and a huge decline in Google traffic. I was shocked, just thinking what to do and how to recover the ranking of the keywords. For my surprise after 24 hrs of painless headache and sleepless night, I seen a big change. I got the keywords ranking back in the same position or in better position, I scolded myself for wasting time and getting stress unnecessarily.

By the time I was happy about recovering keywords ranking and organizing the process, I got the same reflections in my website on 8th of Feb. But this time it was more shocking the former one. I thought it might have been some update from Google which is over now. I was a bit relax that time, but it was not so. It happened again. I was just looking the answer to why its happening. I start thinking that may be it's Google update that occur every year in the starting month, and happening again in 2009. This change put me in doubt and I started thinking about datacenter update of 2009. I had been thinking about this but again for my surprise about keywords ranking in Google. I found all the keywords ranking again and traffic increased to the same level as were before. I was happy again and relaxed. I notice that it recovered in the interval of 27 hrs.

But it seems Google is still not tired and in the mood to dance more. There's another change notice on 10 of Feb. The starting time of the reflection was same as of the 5th of Feb. Sudden drop in keyword ranking, loss in the traffic.....organic searches lost. And the worst one.

May be some .. Google Algorithm Update 2009 .. is going on from Google or any regional "Datacenter Update" is happening. Only the final outcome of this change may can solve the mystery. There is keyword ranking loss for many keywords and no impacts on many others. Is it a sign of .. -950 Penalty .. of Google or .. -30 Penalty .. is about to cursed. It's ok if its -950 Penalty because as usual it will not effect at all or to a minor extent by the end of the result. But it'going to be very stressful if its a -30 Penalty because this reflect that google has lost its trust on the domain and penalized it manually to appear below in SERPs.

All in all, it's quite visible as per Google tendency so far that nothing such is done so it put any -30 penalty. It's not appearing too a Google algorithm update, and also not seems like datacenter update. May be it could be -950 Penalty, but it's not sure what it is at all.

Well let's see what it is at all and how the impact could be of this. But everybody pls post your comments on the same because this is going to have major impacts in the history of Google search history.

It was just by chance I met a SEO guy today, he do optimization on freelance basis. He was so confident about the technique he use to optimize a website. He told me about the website and the company he works for. I was so please to know his technique initially. But by the time I knew more about it, it was shocking. Almost talking for 1/2 an hour around I got to know that he had been using black hat seo to optimize a website.

the issue of internet traffic

Internet marketing field is becoming more competitive and creative every new day. I have been trying to do some viral marketing stuff since last few days but did not copied idea from others. Whatever I did on this was my own. Even today I heard of a new software for viral marketing. I wouldn't mention the software name, but it was more kind of spamming activities.

I don't understand why people uses spamming stuff to attract more visitors to the site. It do not help anyhow. Think of a situation when so much traffic is coming to the site but not staying for long. There are many reason for this. Many experienced professional knew it well but for a newbie it is very important to understand it.

If relevant traffic is not coming to the site then it wouldn't stay for long and waste most of the time in finding relevant information. This will unnecessarily increase bandwidth of the site and extra load on the server. You must be laughing on this because due to advance computer technique this do not hamper more but why we do irrelevant promotional activities. We should be good internet citizen as do not mis-utilize the internet. There are already stupid fellows who don't understand the challenges of increasing internet usage and its problems.

Instead of talking about Online Marketing, Search Engine Optimization and other online promotion techniques, I think of internet traffic today and how we can help to optimize it There are already so many people working on the problems available for internet and many unreachable challenges. but we should also act as responsible internet citizen. uf…hectic. I wasted two hours to come back. If someone has given care to this properly then many waste hours could have been used and productive too :). Many such problems are visible in disorganized parties, events and so on. But what is common here? …. simple, a number of people are happy with this because they like crowds and they don’t care to organize it. Many think that they have satisfied people and many don’t even know about it. Only few people give a proper concentration and serve well usually called “the winner”…. temporarily :) or a never-ending approach, depends.

Oops…why am talking this. If you reconsider the title of this post….yes right. It’s all about your website. There are many site owners who have thousands of daily visitors but do not get the benefit because it is not related or forced. But they are happy because they already have huge website traffic coming in the site and they are planning ahead to get more traffic, Adsense and other such moneymaking programs make it interesting too. But what is the benefit of finding new visitors if you are unable to satisfy the current one. Webmaster doesn’t even think it many times, interested webmasters are trying to do it but all are not winners.

Every webmaster should try to optimize the traffic in a sensible way. Using white hat SEO technique is the best option to optimize your website. Yep yep, so you might be thinking what I am talking about, may be you get me right…Every seo expert or sem professional know how to do website optimization and online marketing. Even they think to be master in each and every arena of online promotion, may be I am too :), but everybody do not take care about systematic search engine optimization even they forget to follow proper marketing guidelines, to achieve the goals..anyhow.

Top 10 Tips for better indexing by crawlers:

1) Unique and relevant content in the site and update content on regular basis…updating content daily or weekly is considered fine.

2) Get backlinks from high PR sites or which is >= “your site current PR”. The link should be relevant to your site theme, never try to link from so many websites that is irrelevant to your site theme. Minimum links from high PR sites are much beneficial then many backlinks from low PR and irrelevant sites.

3) Avoid any broken link or “Page not found 404”error in the site. There should be no any broken link in the site and all the links should have related destination page. Do not create under construction pages.

4) Avoid temporary redirect until highly required. Instead use permanent redirect in the site for all pages that is indexed by search engine but do not exist now. Redirect such urls to other most relevant page or request search engine to remove it from indexed database.

5) Easy navigation & site structure, user convenient is a must. You site should have easy navigation, so it is helpful to visitors. You visitors should be able to access every related page from any page or section in the site.

How to optimize my website?

Everybody wants more traffic coming to the site and huge efforts are done to make an attractive site. So what you think; a well designed and attractive website is enough to derive traffic to your site…….to some extent. Until and unless your visitors don’t know the website it merely becomes a dream. You are required to put some extra effort to derive traffic to your site (and especially relevant traffic as per the theme of the site). The ratio of efforts and traffic derive business and visitors for your site. More the efforts and more the traffic (ya its exceptional for brand site such as Google.com etc., It’s only that there’s so many backlinks for this, which converted to traffic and then business too.) But what for a commercial website, the webmasters/specialist needs to take care what can be done to increase the traffic of the site.

People use many methods and techniques to gain ranking in search engines, which ultimately affects the page rank and traffic of the site. Well we will try to concentrate on the main topic “How to optimize my website”. Yeah definitely I’ll be discussing this too in coming postings….

Optimizing website is all required On Site work, your website should posses everything as per theme or relevancy of the site. Anything opposite to this may affect your site ranking. So always keep improving relevancy of the site.

Here are few points that you may consider while optimizing your website:

-Attractive site (of course – eye-catching sites are easy to remember)
-Relevant content -– yeah it should have theme related content all around the site, irrelevant content distract visitors and reputation of site too.
-Minimum download time – it should be minimum as far possible…..remember GOOGLE
-Optimized Images – every image in the site should be of minimum size to the extent possible and relevant ALT text added to that.
-Easy Navigation – this is what helps visitors to scan your site at a glance, when they find what they are looking for, the chances increases for more business. Imagine the ring tone you are looking for is lying somewhere in the xyz.com site, but not accessible by you…….probably you will switch to other site in seconds.
-Site Structure – Easy to get idea about
-Keyword Density – should be appropriate to the body of the pages
-Title, Meta description & Meta Keywords – for each and every webpages
-Minimum Popup – don’t rely on popups much…….it distract visitors (at least until very much required)
-Robots.txt inclusion – if you don’t want any directory to be crawled by any particular search engine.

This is basic and works a lot. You can do lots when doing search engine optimization for your site as per search engine guidelines…..this I already mention in my last blog submission.

Why to optimize your website?

Well here the answer is search engines are becoming smarter time by time like Google, Yahoo. They are able to check your site how useful it is for a visitor. The time you optimize the site you are required to take care that you are following search engines guidelines for optimization and they are beneficial to your visitors for what they are looking for.

There is different approach for Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines. But the ulitimate object of various search engine is to provide the best relevant result to its visitors. They set the algorithms accordingly. Whatever we do during otimization we should take care this is not against search engines specifications. Its not spamming and it as per the expectation to the visitors coming to the site.
